Things Summer and I have in common:

As I was driving around town today, I saw a very cool, classic Chevy car. I pointed it out to the kids and told them that I liked old cars and that I would love to have one to drive around town someday. T Jay asked me why (of course) and I told him that I just like old things. (especially things from the 40's and 50's-FYI) This gem of a conversation followed:

Summer: "I like old things, too, Mom- (pause) and I like old people."

T. Jay: "You guys have something in common."

Me: "We have lots of things in common."

T. Jay: "What? You're beautiful, you like old things, and you like old people. That's three things."
Yep, Three things, I'll take it!

It's all coming back to me...

As I was getting ready for bed last night, I was thinking that I need to update my blog, but that I really didn't have anything to post about. Somewhere between falling asleep and actually being asleep, I woke up with a little drool on my mouth. I guess I had my mouth open due to being congested. This isn't the first time this has happened, it's especially common during nap time. I will wake up and my pillow will be a little drool-y. It's very nice. Anyway, last night as I wiped the drool away I laughed a little as I remembered something that happened to me in High school.
It was Eleventh grade English class, taught by Mrs. Topper. I sat in the middle row, second to the last seat in the back row. I used to pass that class time by passing notes to my friend the whole hour. I know, great example for Summer some day! Anyway, this particular day I was too tired for note passing, so I decided to take a nap. It was "winter" in FL, so the boy who sat in front of me had a huge puffy jacket hung on the back of his chair. Now. I can't even begin to understand why he had such a big jacket in FL, but it worked out nicely for me. I pulled his two big puffy sleeves up on my desk for a pillow and took a nap. I must have been tired, because I slept the whole hour. Zonked! I got a friendly nudge right before the bell rang and woke up. As I sat up, I realized that there was a nice sized pool of drool on this boys coat sleeves. I was pretty embarrassed about this and frantically tried to wipe the drool off. I put his sleeves back down just as he pulled his jacket off of the chair and headed out of the classroom. I can't even begin to think what must have gone through his head as he tried to figure out why his sleeves were damp in such a strange area! Did I add that I really didn't even know this boy very well? Nope, just a quick "Hey, how's it going?" before class started. Very funny and embarrassing! It's funny how little memories get triggered. Never thought I'd think of that day again, much less this many years later!

Tennis Lessons

T Jay started taking tennis lessons about 3 weeks ago. He really has been enjoying them. The first week he saw a poster with some male tennis players on it that had a wrist sweat band on, so this week he wanted his sweat band and his hat on backward, you know, to look the part and all.
His favorite game is called "Poison ball" I think they practice jumping out of the way of balls on that one. Isn't he so cute?!
Summer passing the time. She has since started to attend gymnastics. Now that T Jay has seen all of the fun "things" that she gets to "play" on at gymnastics, he wants to switch to that. We may have a jack of all sports on our hands. Come to think of it, he does get distracted easily...

Life...

This is going to be random and probably disjointed, but that is pretty but how my brain is running right now! It's a funny thing being a parent. It's amazing what you can learn, as well as what life is like.
For example, we've had several quotable quotes from T Jay this week. Since there is so much talk of the economy as of late, I thought this might help anyone who might need some advice: First, while Jess was messing with his Blackberry at dinner, T Jay asked him what he was doing. Jess replied, "I'm making money." To which T. Jay replied "life is not about money. It is about living." So let's get living.
If that doesn't work, this next bit might help. T Jay also asked Jess why he had to go to work all of the time. Jess told him that he had to work to earn money so he could buy us food. T Jay told him, "Dad, all you need to do is get a bucket and put a sign on it that says 'We need money' and when people walk by they'll give you money." So get your buckets folks! (I really hope this idea comes from the bell ringers over the holidays.)
And a little fire safety for those in need: We bought some shot gun shells at Wal-Mart the other day and T Jay wanted to know how the bullets worked. He got a brief tutorial on how the different layers in a bullet work together to fire. To this he said, "You never ever touch fire to a pile of gun powder in front of you. You want to throw a match at it." Should I be worried?
While I was at the chiropractor yesterday, I had my Matthew with me. As we were waiting, I was trying to find things to keep him entertained. As busy as he is, being strapped in is torture for him unless food is involved. With the food gone, I resorted to asking him questions. He watched a show where there was a cuckoo clock, so now all clocks are cuckoo clocks. Our game is to ask if any random thing is a cuckoo clock and then to say a dramatic no. He is also fond of knock, knock jokes. Here is how his version goes: Him, "Knock, knock." Me, "Who's there?" Him, " 'Nana." Me, "Banana who?" Him, "Owl." Me, " yep, owls say Hoo." It's very fun. Especially when repeated 25 times in a row.
And last, When I picked Summer up from school yesterday, she looked very mellow, sad even. I was wondering to myself which type of drama was coming. The "I got into trouble" kind or the "I'm mad at my friend." or my personal favorite, "I can be a drama queen if I want to." one. When I started to talk to her, and asked her what was wrong, she told me that her eyes were hot. This immediately got me thinking of the "My hair was hot" line in Napoleon Dynamite. She told me that she was outside in the sun and it made her eyes hot. (Ahh the "I can be dramatic if I want to" kind) It took me a bit to put everything together, but I finally figured out that she meant that her eyes were burning due to the fever she had. She got to spend the rest of the day resting on the couch.
Sometimes I think about how fun life was when it was just Jess and I. I used to just get out of the car and go in to a place. Just walked in. We took trips where relaxation was involved. We even had conversations all in one whack! But, I also think of what I'd be missing. It's a ton of work, but I love it. I couldn't imagine a life where I didn't repeat Knock, knock jokes endlessly.

35 weeks

Here I am at 35 weeks. I'm still not ready to begin the "we're almost there" countdown. 5 (maybe 6 or 7) weeks still seems far away! Baby is growing away and we are just waiting. I continue to receive great pictures of myself with a really large belly from the kids and lots of endearing belly rubs and belly hugs from the kids. I think they are ready to start counting down, they keep asking, "When is March going to be here?"!
In case you couldn't see just how big the belly is, here's a close up. Matthew was my photographer again!
On a high note, I went to a Chiropractor this week to see if he could help with a pain in my lower spine region. It turns out that the way my spine was positioned, it was making one of my legs almost 2 inches shorter than the other! My body is getting used to being upright, and I hope the irritated nerve calms down soon. He said delivery should be even easier with everything in the right place! Yea!! By the way, thanks for all of the great baby names. I'm sure that it will be a last second decision, because that's kind of how I roll with names! If you have any last minute ideas, please share!

Names

Names are important. That's the bottom line. I have been asked by many people if I have picked a name for our new baby girl yet. I really haven't. I'm a little stumped, so I am enlisting all of my blog friends to help me out. I really only have one criteria. It has to be sing-ably great! For example:

Just kidding, I just think that's funny!
Thanks for the help!

While I'm on the Subject of Matthew...

While I was getting ready (do you notice a trend here?) Matthew's stars aligned just right because I forgot to lock the pantry before heading upstairs to do my thing (Just as an FYI I usually only take 10-20 minutes to "get ready", it's not like he has a lot of time to work with here, but he seems to manage nicely!) He decided that he was hungry, so why not munch on a packet of raw oatmeal? Well, maybe not, I guess oatmeal seemed better suited for sprinkling. At least he lost interest after about 2 or three packets! Thank heavens for my Dyson!
Caught red handed! No, he is not putting oatmeal in his diaper or playing with himself. I later found that his diaper tab was rubbing on his skin. He usually runs to the treadmill and swings on the bar when I discover a mess that he's made.
Since the oatmeal didn't turn out to be as edifying as he'd hope, he turned to the ever satisfying tortillas! Just so you know, they are the best & most fun when you just eat the good parts! It's different on everyone, too! Notice the swirly pink on the carpet? That's from the Crystal light incident about 2 months ago. Nice, huh? We recently purchased a carpet shampooer that will make my life a little cleaner! I can't believe we went this long with out replacing the one we "lost" in our move down here. Do they ever grow out of this? Anyone?
